ONE-Dyas gets all clear for North Sea's first wind-powered gas field
Dutch gas producer ONE-Dyas has secured approval from the government to develop what will be the first gas field in the North Sea to be powered using wind energy, it said on June 2.
The permits for the NO5-A field, some 20 km north of the islands of Borkum, Rottumerplaat and Schiermonnikoog, were granted by the Dutch economy ministry. ONE-Dyas' platform will depend solely on power supplied from the nearby Riffgat wind farm.

"Project N05-A and the energy transition go hand in hand," ONE-Dyas CEO Chris de Ruyter van Stevenick said in a statement. "The transition to 100% renewable energy takes time. Natural gas will still be part of the energy mix in the coming decades. As long as natural gas is still needed to heat our homes, it is our job to make sure it is as clean, affordable and reliable as possible."
First gas is expected by the end of 2024.
