ONGC's Gas Output to Increase 70% by 2021-2022
Indian state-owned explorer ONGC’s natural gas production is expected increase by close to 70% by 2021-2022, company’s chief marketing officer R Guhan told the LNG India Summit November 29 in New Delhi.
ONGC’s gas production will likely increase from 24.77bn m3 in 2018-2019 (April 2018-March 2019) to 41.45bn m3 in 2021-2022, an increase of 67.3%. “This augurs well for country’s appetite for higher amount of natural gas in its energy mix,” Guhan said.
In a bid to tackle chronic air pollution, India is trying to increase the share of gas from 6-7% at present to 15% of its energy mix in the next ten years.
Last week, Press Trust of India reported ONGC’s natural gas production has hit an all-time high of about 70mn m3/day. ONGC produced about 64mn m³/day in November last year and this year the output is close to touching 70mn m3/day, sources told the news agency.
Guhan said ONGC has stepped up on bringing newer fields into production. Its first deep water gas field, S1-VA, offshore India’s east coast, was recently commissioned while first gas from the KG-DWN-98/2 block, also off the east coast, is expected soon, he said.
