Origin spuds Velkerri 76 S2-1 well in Beetaloo

Origin Energy has spudded the Velkerri 76 S2-1 well located in Australia’s Beetaloo sub-basin, it said on August 12.

The Velkerri 76 vertical well is being drilled to assess the prospectivity of liquids-rich gas in the eastern flank of the permit area. Core, wireline, and diagnostic fracture injection test data will be collected to inform potential future appraisal activity, Origin said.

A further extended production test has also started at the Amungee NW-1H well. The objective is to retest the dry gas Velkerri shale play to assess if all of the original stages that were fracture stimulated contributed to production. An initial extended production test led to the announcement of a 6.6 trillion ft3 2C material gas resource in February 2017.

The activity was paused at Kyalla 117 well in July to investigate downhole flow restriction, Origin said. Preparations are continuing towards starting an extended production test in the weeks ahead.

Origin’s Beetaloo exploration project is a joint venture with London-listed Falcon Oil & Gas.
