Oz AGL Offers Carbon Neutral Gas
Australian gas and electricity retailer AGL Energy has expanded its offering of certified carbon-neutral products to include gas, it said on November 25, after over 20,000 customers signed up for its certified carbon-neutral electricity.
“The new option is part of AGL’s commitments under its climate statement, which sets a target for net-zero emissions by 2050 and allows all energy customers, whether they are residential, small business, commercial or industrial, to reduce their carbon footprint through a certified programme,” the company said.
AGL said that the take-up rate of certified carbon-neutral electricity since its July launch had exceeded its expectations and it was confident customers would now embrace the offer for gas.
“For the 20,000 customers who have made that choice, we have already taken action by purchasing eligible offset units to cover greenhouse gas emissions associated with the generation and delivery of their electricity. We’re pleased to be able to extend the offer to our gas products,” AGL CEO Brett Redman said. “We will continue to put customer choice at the forefront of everything we do as we plan for carbon-neutral options across all our products - electricity, gas, or telecommunications by FY21.”
