Oz Leigh Creek Projects Clears Legal Hurdle
Australian Leigh Creek Energy cleared a legal hurdle September 19 as the South Australian Supreme Court dismissed a challenge made on behalf of the Adnyamathanha Traditional Lands Association (ATLA) aimed at stopping its Leigh Creek Energy Project.
“The Company believes this decision reaffirms the rigorous assessment processes undertaken by the South Australian Government and by the Company preliminary to the granting of approvals for the [Pre-Commercial Demonstration facility],” Leigh Creek said.
The company announced on September 7 that an application had been made on behalf of ATLA by the New South Wales Environmental Defenders Office seeking judicial review of a decision by the minister for energy and mining to issue carious approvals, and to injunct the start-up of the PCD at the project.
Leigh Creek says it remains on track for operations to begin in the third quarter of this year.
The Leigh Creek Energy Project is planned to produce electricity, synthetic natural gas and ammonium nitrate products from the remnant coal resources at Leigh Creek, utilising In Situ Gasification technologies.
