Pakistan Expected to Sign Gas Pipeline Deals with Russia, China in Two Months
Pakistan is expected to sign commercial agreements with Chinese and Russian government in two months for construction of Gwadar-Nawabshah and Karachi-Lahore gas pipelines, Dawn, a local newspaper reported Friday.
The Gwadar-Nawabshah will be constructed by a Chinese firm while Karachi-Lahore pipeline will be built by a Russian company. Both the pipelines are expected to complete by 2017, Managing Director Inter State Gas Systems (ISGS), Mobin Saulat told National Assembly Standing Committee on Petroleum and Natural Resources on Thursday.
In phase one, LNG terminals in Gawadar and Karachi will be built each with a capacity to handle 600 million cubic feet LNG. In phase two, LNG terminals in Karachi and Gawadar will be completed with the same capacity, Dawn reported.
Earlier this month Pakistan approved the construction of Russian funded pipeline. In October 2015, Moscow and Islamabad signed an intergovernmental agreement on the construction of the pipeline. In December 2014, Rostec announced that its subsidiary, RT Global Resources, would be building oil and LNG pipelines and terminals in Pakistan with total cost of about $3 billion.
