Pakistan Sets Up Committee to Look into Issue of Shale Gas Development

Pakistan’s has set up a high-level committee to start working on shale gas development by engaging professionals of petroleum and gas sectors, reports local newspaper The News.

The committee will develop shale resources in collaboration with Sustainable Development Policy Institute.

“We can make Pakistan an energy surplus country in the future by tapping this tremendous resource,” The News quoted Energy expert Arshad H Abbasi as saying.

It was decided that the committee would meet every two months to brainstorm emerging development challenges of the country.

Pakistan has been working towards augmenting supply of natural gas supplies in the country to bridge the gap between supp and demand. Earlier his month Eni and Pakistan discussed the need of enhancing country’s gas production by exploiting shale gas and ultra-deep offshore reserves.

Last year, Energy Information Administration (EIA) said Pakistan’s shale gas reserves may be close to 105 trillion cubic feet (TCF).
