Pakistan Witnessed Discovery of 38 Gas Reservoirs During the Past Four Years

Pakistan witnessed discovery of 38 natural gas reservoirs during the past four years by oil exploration companies, Business Recorder reported citing a senior petroleum ministry official.

These companies drilled 102 wells during the past four years, raising the natural gas production from 3.98 Billion cubic feet per day (Bcfd) to 4.25 Bcfd.

The official told Business Recorder that the government was likely to offer 60 blocks for bidding under the new Petroleum Policy to expedite the exploration and production of oil and gas.

Around 750 Mmcfd gas would be added to the system within the next 12 to 18 months, which would increase the local gas production to 5 Bcfd, the official said. 

According to the official, the share of gas in Pakistan's energy mix was 51 percent, the largest in the world.
