Pakistan's First Floating Terminal has Imported About One Million Tons of Gas
Engro Elengy Terminal Pakistan Limited’s (ETPL) floating LNG terminal has imported around one million tons of gas since start of operations, a company official said Wednesday.
Pakistan’s first floating terminal utilised 88 percent of handling and re-gasification capacity, The News reported quoting ETPL’s Chief executive officer Syed Mohammad Ali.
Independent power producers and fertiliser, textile and compressed natural gas sectors have used the LNG imported during the first nine months, or by the end of December 2015, Ali stated.
Ali said the country needs another three to four LNG import terminals to bridge the gap in demand and supply of natural gas.
Pakistan is facing acute shortage of natural gas which has affected the industrial sector. The government is trying to import LNG from Qatar. Talks between the two countries are on but signing of a long term contract has been delayed.
