Pakistan's OGDCL strikes gas
Pakistan's state-owned Oil and Gas Development Company Ltd (OGDCL) announced on July 29 a gas and condensate discovery after drilling at the Wali exploration licence in the country's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
It is the first find to be made in the Kawagarh formation, OGDCL said. The well it drilled reached a depth of 4,727 m, and test-flowed at a rate of 11.8mn ft3/day of gas and 945 barrels/day of condensate.

Pakistan is looking for more gas to develop in order to keep production stable, as the country struggles with an acute energy crisis, caused by overreliance on furnace oil for power as well as poorly-maintained energy infrastructure. The country is also seeking to expand its LNG import capacity so that gas can play a greater role in its economy.
OGDCL produced 865mn ft3/d of gas in the nine months ending March 31, down from 916mn ft3/d in the corresponding period in 2019-2020, partly because of the impact of the pandemic.
