Pertamina International Shipping, Karpowership to develop LNG infrastructure in Indonesia

Pertamina International Shipping (PIS), a unit of Pertamina, and Turkey's Karpowership have signed a general partnership agreement (GPA) to develop LNG infrastructure in Indonesia, PIS said on December 2. The partnership was formalised during the COP28 in Dubai.

Under the GPA, the key focus areas include power generation opportunities with a special focus on powership technology; unlocking gas assets through liquefaction with a floating LNG development and deployment; collaborating on LNG infrastructural projects including floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs) and small-scale LNG distribution.

Both parties will also work together on extensive studies for the development of alternative fuel sources, including hydrogen, ammonia, methanol, and other biofuels.

Karpowership has over 6 GW of installed capacity globally via its powerships and onshore plants, as well as a fleet of floating LNG infrastructure which includes LNG carriers and FSRUs. PIS owns more than 400 vessels including 96 owned tankers, 6 fuel and LPG storage terminals and operates 140 ports.
