Petrobras Makes Campos Basin Discovery
Brazil's Petrobras has discovered hydrocarbons after drilling a well at the offshore block C-M-657 in the pre-salt of the Campos basin, it said on September 23.
The well was drilled 308 km from Rio de Janeiro in waters almost 2,900 m deep. The well identified hydrocarbons in carbonate reservoirs, Petrobras said, without saying whether the find was oil, gas or a combination of both.
Data from the well will be analysed to assess the discovery's potential and guide future exploration plans.
Petrobras was awarded block C-M-657 in a tender in March 2018. It operates the site with a 30% stake, while partners ExxonMobil and Norway's Equinor have shares of 40% and 30%.
