Petrobras Seeks Buyers for 4 TPPs
Petrobras has invited non-binding bids for four thermal power plants (TPPs) with a combined generation capacity of 578 MW, the Brazilian state concern said June 15.
Three of the stations are in Camacari in the eastern coastal state of Bahia. With a capacity of 329 MW, the Arembepe, Bahia-1 and Muricy plants run on fuel oil but could potentially be converted to use gas, Petrobras said. The fourth 249-MW Canoas station is in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul and can run on both diesel and gas.
Brazil produces the bulk of its power at hydroelectric power plants, but it wants to develop gas as a baseload source that can provide stable supplies during times of drought. It is building LNG import capacity and expanding its gas pipeline network as part of this effort.
