UK oil and gas field services provider Petrofrac said July 6 it had secured a three-year contract extension from Neptune Energy for work at the Cygnus gas field in the North Sea.

Petrofrac described the Cygnus field as the largest gas discovery in the southern waters of the North Sea in the last 30 years, capable of meeting about 6% of total UK demand for natural gas.

Neptune in January awarded $6.5mn in contracts for integrity management and fabric maintenance at its Cygnus gas platform in the UK to Oceaneering and Stork.

Neptune operates the field with a 38.75% interest, while its partner Spirit Energy, controlled by retailer Centrica, has 61.25%.
