Petronas' PFLNG1 Reaches Kanowit Gas Field Offshore Malaysia

Petronas’ first floating LNG vessel, PFLNG1 has reached the Kanowit gas field offshore Malaysia.

“After 2,120 nautical mile journey to Malaysia, on the May 30, 2016, the PFLNG1 has finally reached its destination!” the company said on Thursday via a tweet.

PFLNG1 set sail for Kanowit gas field on May 14, 2016 from South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) shipyard in Okpo. It is estimated to produce 1.2 million tonne of LNG per year.

The gas will be supplied to both domestic and international markets.

The PFLNG1 will proceed with the installation, hook-up and commissioning of the floating facility once moored at the Kanowit gas field, 180 kilometres offshore Sarawak.

Construction began with the official steel cutting in June 2013 followed by the launching of the hull on April 2014. In the fourth quarter of 2015, Petronas announced that PFLNG1 had achieved a 95 per cent overall progress in its construction with the successful installation of 22 modular systems within and on the topside of the floating facility.

Petronas expects PFLNG1 to enhance its global LNG portfolio and its reputation as a preferred and reliable LNG supplier.
