Petronas has submitted an export application with Canada’s National Energy Board to export LNG from northern British Columbia.
Pacific NorthWest LNG, which is 90% owned by the Malaysian firm has applied for a license to export up to 19.68 million tonnes of LNG per year for 25 years beginning in 2019, it said in a statement.
The LNG facility which is based at Port Edward, B.C. will be supplied with natural gas sourced primarily from Progress Energy Canada’s assets in northeast British Columbia.
Pacific NorthWest president Greg Kist said in the statement the proposed facility represents an investment of $9 billion to $11 billion and will create up to 3,500 direct jobs during construction and create between 200 and 300 full-time jobs.
