Petrovietnam Gas completes first LNG delivery by train

State-owned Petrovietnam Gas Corporation (PV Gas) has completed its inaugural LNG delivery by train, it announced on September 6. The LNG was transported from Trang Bom railway station in Trang Bom district, Dong Nai province, moving the fuel from the south of Vietnam to the northern regions.

In light of the inadequate LNG import infrastructure in Northern Vietnam, PV Gas has implemented a multi-modal transport solution combining road and rail to reach areas beyond its existing infrastructure. This method addresses the energy demands of regions not yet served by PV GAS’s pipeline network.

The train, loaded with 16 ISO tanks of LNG at -162°C, represents PV Gas’s successful integration of an energy supply chain that now includes pipelines, waterways, roads, and rail across Vietnam, the company said. To ensure prompt delivery, the LNG train will be given priority, with an expected transit time of three days to the northern region.

PV Gas last year commissioned the Thi Vai LNG import terminal which has an initial capacity of 1mn tonnes/year. It includes a 180,000 m³ storage tank, a jetty, and a regasification area. The terminal’s capacity is set to increase to 3mn tonnes/year in its second phase.
