PetroVietnam Gas to supply LNG to Vietnam Electricity

PetroVietnam Gas, a subsidiary of the state-backed energy company PetroVietnam, on April 9 announced the signing of a contract to supply nearly 70,000 tonnes of LNG to Vietnam Electricity (EVN).

Under the terms of the agreement, PetroVietnam Gas will supply LNG to the Phu My 3 thermal power plant during the period of April-May 2024, contributing approximately 500mn kWh to the power system of Vietnam.

The LNG is being sourced from Qatar. The Al Jassasiya vessel carrying the LNG is scheduled to arrive at the Thi Vai LNG terminal in Vietnam on April 11.

The Thi Vai LNG import terminal was commissioned by PV Gas last year. With an initial handling capacity of 1mn tonnes/year, the terminal boasts a 180,000 m3 storage LNG tank, a jetty, and a regasification area. In the second phase, the terminal's capacity will be expanded to 3mn tonnes/year.

PV Gas announced earlier in March its plans to commence LNG supply via trucks to downstream customers in the near future.
