The Polish Oil and Gas Company (PGNiG) says results of preliminary work aimed at proving unconventional gas reserves at the Markowola-1 well  near Kozienice, Lublin province in Eastern Poland, will be announced in the end of September.

PGNiG drilled the first well in Markwola in late April and contracted Halliburton to performed two large-scale fracturing operations in July in search of unconventional gas reserves.

At that time we will take any decisions concerning future exploration work in this area” he added.

The company is planning to spend approximately PLN 100 million on shale gas exploration this year and PLN 150 million next year. PGNiG  hold 13 of the 62 exploration licenses that Poland has issued to prospect for shale gas and has applied for two more.
