PGNiG Seeks to Partner for Shale Exploration

At a recent conference on unconventional gas deposits in Warsaw, Waldemar Wojcik  Deputy CEO of the Polish gas monopoly PGNiG stated his company's interest in exploration and extraction from Poland's abundant oil shale deposits.

Wojcik commented that PGNiG wants to cooperate with Lane Energy in Pomerania, with Marathon Oil Corp. near Warsaw and with Chevron near Lublin. "We are open to all proposals," he added.

Poland's oil shale deposits estimated at 1.5-3 trillion cubic meters have attracted interest from many international players, including ConocoPhillips, BNK Petroleum, OMV and Realm Energy.  The Polish Environment Ministry has issued 44 concessions for their exploration, with another 31 concession motions pending.
