Philippines Eyeing Long Term LNG Deal with Qatar

Philippines is looking to sign a long-tern LNG deal with Qatar to meet its domestic gas demand, South-east nation’s ambassador to Qatar HE Wilfredo C Santos said Tuesday.

Talking to Qatar Tribune newspaper on the sidelines of a meeting between a Philippine trade delegation and Qatar Chamber officials in Doha, Santos said Philippines will exhaust most of its LNG resources by 2024 and the country is looking at Qatar to secure its energy requirements.

Government level talks between the two countries are expected to commence soon, the newspaper reported.

"We have high hopes from Qatar as it is one of the major LNG producers in the world. Securing LNG supplies from Qatar is one of the main goals of our visit this time," Jose Manuel G Romualdez, head of the Philippine trade delegation said.
