Philippines May Source LNG from Brunei, Canada
Philippines is planning to import LNG from Brunei and Canada.
Energy Secretary Carlos Jericho Petilla said a thorough study on LNG pricing would have to be done first in order to get the best deal for Filipino consumers, Business Mirror has reported.
“I want to get involved in the pricing scheme for LNG…. We have no [LNG] facility now, so I want to find out where we are in terms of pricing,” Petilla was quoted as saying.
Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp. plans to do a feasibility study to build an LNG regassification terminal beside its refinery in Batangas estimated to cost $1 billion, Business Mirror said.
Energy World International Ltd. of Australia is also planning to put up an LNG terminal in Quezon province, also south of Manila, that is targeted to be completed by January 2014.
