Planet Gas Commences CBM Drilling

Planet Gas has spudded the Mead’s Crossing-1 exploration core hole on PEL 468 in New  South Wales to assess the extent of CBM reserves.

The core hole would be drilled to a depth of between 600 and 800 metres, for about 21 days, targeting coalbed methane (CBM) resources in the Illawaara coal measures in the north-west NSW, the company said.

Mead’s Crossing-1 is the first of the two planned core holes to confirm the presence, thickness and quality of the coals and analyse presence of gas and its concentration.

In view of the New South Wales government extending a moratorium on hydraulic fracturing last month until December 31 and introducing tougher restrictions on the state’s CBM industry, the company said no fraccing or well stimulation of any kind would be carried out during its current exploration coring program.
