Poland Increases E&P Activity in W Poland
State-owned producer PGNiG is to boost gas output in the west of the country over the next three to four years, to supply combined heat and power plants in Gorzow Wielkopolski and Zielona Gora, it said October 8. The gas network in the west of Poland will also grow, it said.
Two-thirds of natural gas produced domestically comes from the Polish Lowlands. The region is virtually Poland’s only source of crude oil. "Our investments to expand the Lubiatow oil and gas production facility and to develop the Rozansko field will significantly raise the facility’s output and capacity," said PGNiG. "This is our response to growing demand from the Gorzow CHP plant, which, alongside the CHP plant in Zielona Gora, is among the largest gas consumers in the region."
The local governments will also benefit from more tax take from production of oil and gas. Over the next three to four years, a PGNiG subsidiary will modernise some 60 km of the gas network in Zielona Gora.
PGNiG last week also announced a boost in output from the southeast near the Carpathians, where it now produces about 1.3bn m³/yr of its its 4bn m³/yr total.
