Poland: Catholic Youth May Join Shale Information Campaign
A Catholic youth organization in the eastern part Poland may join efforts to educate locals living in the areas where shale gas exploration is taking place
According to the Gazeta Wyborcza Daily, the information campaign project, prepared by a professor of Geology at the UMCS (Maria Curie Sklodowska University) and the Catholic Youth Association of the Archdiocese of Lublin, will be granted 700,000 PLN (170,000 EUR, 225,000 USD) by the National Fund for Environmental Protection.
Apart from regional television and radio programs and commercials, the project is to include meetings with local communities.
The organizer, quoted by the daily, says that 45 young activists will be trained to become campaigners, with the aim of dispelling myths concerning shale gas, but also informing on risks connected with the use of hydraulic fracturing.
However, a representative of the Archidiocese in Lublin is more cautious, saying it’s too early to comment, as the final agreement has not been signed yet.
