Standart News: Poland - Bulgaria Report: A real gas market in Europe is yet to be built - Polish PM Tusk

''On March 21st the European Council has agreed that there is an urgent need to tackle the issue of EU's energy dependency. The Ukrainian crisis has launched intensified talks on the EU security of energy supply, gas in particular. But, as we all remember, these talks have really been going on for years'', Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk says in an official statement sent to Standart by the Embassy of Poland in Bulgaria.

The statement gos on as follows: ''EU dependence from external energy suppliers has been a permanent problem which does not stem from the current Russian-Ukrainian crisis. Today we see that it limits our room for maneuver against Russia's aggressive policy in Ukraine. But the truth is that energy dependence is above all an economic as well as a political problem for the EU as a whole.

The only way to overcome the financial crisis was to establish the Banking Union, a decision taken in favour of the EU, against egoistic national interests. The Ukrainian crisis is the same kind of lesson and the conclusions should be similar. Crisis is the best moment to draw strong conclusions, so as to emerge from it reinforced.
