PAP: Polish Geological Institute director on shale gas resources, regulation et al.

Jerzy Nawrocki, Director of the Polish Geological Institute, spoke to PAP on the report on Poland's shale gas resources, regulation et al.

"A new report must be based on confirmed deposit tests that would measure gas flow, enable us to determine the recovery rate. When we receive such information we will immediately start recalculating and drawing up a new report."

"If there is no such data we can only carry out a modification based only on new drillings that might verify forecasts of resources by 10-20%, but we will still be moving within the same, very large margin of error."

Companies would probably speed up the pace of works after the publication of the first positive deposit test, Nawrocki said. The current pace of works is insufficient.

"Let's not expect companies to become less cautious in the near future than they are now. Especially since legal and administrative solutions affecting profitability and streamlining the exploration procedure are still ahead. I'm talking about the new draft of geological and mining law."

Launch of extraction on an industrial scale could be possible at the end of 2014, but of rather small volumes, according to Nawrocki.  MORE
