Predator Looks to Supply Ireland with LNG
London-listed Predator Oil & Gas said on May 29 it would apply for an LNG import licence for Ireland after reaching confidentiality agreements with a global LNG supplier and the owner of a regasification terminal.
The company, which also works in Trinidad and Morocco, said it was setting up a new subsidiary Predator LNG Ireland to contract a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) for Ireland with enough send out capacity to meet the country's peak gas demand.
Predator did not say where the facility would receive its gas from, but noted that it would not come from shale gas fracking projects.
Company CEO Paul Griffiths said the group had used its experience in Trinidad "to create this exciting new business development opportunity with two global players in the offshore LNG regasification sector." Trinidad is home to Atlantic LNG and is a conventional offshore gas producer.
"This strategy fits with our core near-term goal of becoming a carbon neutral energy company through creating increased CO2 sequestration capacity in Trinidad that is funded by maintaining an energy business with potential for future revenue growth," he said.
