PTTEP Finds Gas Off Malaysia
Thai state-owned PTTEP on February 24 announced a gas discovery from Dokong-1 well in Block SK417 offshore Malaysia.
The drilling of Dokong-1 exploration well started in November 2020, targeting gas in the sandstone reservoir. The well was drilled to a total depth of 3,810 m and encountered more than 80 m of gas column. The second exploration well will be drilled in the middle of this year as part of the exploration campaign, PTTEP said.

“This drilling result paves the way for exploration of nearby prospects that have similar geological structures,” PTTEP CEO Phongsthorn Thavisin said. “It also presents opportunity for PTTEP to synergize future development and production of SK417 with the adjacent areas and leverage on our strong expertise in cluster development.”
Block SK417 is located in shallow waters, approximately 90-km off the coast of Sarawak. PTTEP HKO, a unit of PTTEP, is the operator with 80% participating interest and Petronas Carigali, a subsidiary of Malaysian state Petronas, holds the rest.
PTTEP earlier this month confirmed the start-up of natural gas production from Rotan and Buluh deepwater fields in Block H off the coast of Sabah, Malaysia.
