Putin to Meet Poroshenko in Milan Later This Week

Russia’s President Vladimir Putin and Ukraine’s counterpart Petro Poroshenko will discuss gas issues in Milan on Thursday and Friday.

‘Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko on the Ukrainian side’s initiative. The two leaders discussed possible measures for assisting in the peaceful settlement of the situation in southeast Ukraine,’ the Kremlin wrote on Tuesday night. 

After the failed attempts under the wing of European Commissioner Günther Oettinger in Berlin, the leaders of the two countries will meet at the sidelines of the ASEM Summit in the Italian city.

According to a separate note released by Ukrainian authorities, Putin and Poroshenko agreed on the necessity of ‘strict compliance with the agreements on ceasefire and withdrawal of troops.’

Meanwhile, Ukrtransgaz said that the Ukrainian gas transmission system is ready for the heating season.
