Qatar Agrees to Supply LNG to Pakistan

Qatar has agreed to supply Pakistan 400 million cubic feet gas per day (mmcfd) LNG by October 2014, reports Pakistani daily The News.

The decision was taken during a meeting between Qatari authorities and Pakistan delegation headed by Federal Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi held in Doha on December 7, the newspaper reports.

According to The News, the decision became easy as Pakistan fulfilled the prerequisites of authorities in Qatar by giving the contract to Engro Vopak Terminal Limited (EVTL) for constructing the terminal to import LNG.

ConocoPhillips, which enjoys the rights to export LNG from Qatar, had earlier asked Pakistan to first show seriousness by installing the LNG terminal.

The price of LNG is yet to be decided.

EVTL terminal will first import 200 mmcfd LNG and then 400 mmcfd. More terminals would also be built for more LNG imports, as the government wants to import 2 bcfd LNG in two years, the news report adds.
