Qatar inaugurates Barzan gas plant

Qatari amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani on March 15 inaugurated the Barzan gas plant at Ras Laffan Industrial City, QatarEnergy said the same day. 

The plant will process natural gas from the North Field to serve the requirements of local power generation and water desalinisation. It will also produce associated hydrocarbon products for supply to local refinery and petrochemical industries as well as for export to international markets, the company said.

The Barzan gas plant is capable of producing almost 1.4bn ft3/day of sales gas for local power generation and water desalination; 2,000 metric tons/day of ethane as feedstock for the local petrochemicals industry; 1,500 mt/day of liquid petroleum gas (LPG) for export to international markets; 30,000 barrels/day of condensate for processing in the Laffan Refinery and export to international markets; and 3,500 mt/day of sulfur.

Qatargas operates the Barzan plant on behalf of its shareholders: QatarEnergy (93%) and ExxonMobil (7%).
