Qatargas Delivers Commissioning Cargo to New Indian LNG Terminal
Qatargas said on February 2 it had supplied a commissioning cargo to India's latest LNG import terminal in the eastern port of Mundra, confirming previous press reports.
The cargo was loaded in Ras Laffan on January 17 onto the Murwab Q-Flex LNG vessel, which has a storage capacity of 216,000 m3. It arrived at the Mundra terminal on January 22.
Mundra is the second LNG terminal that Qatargas has helped commission in India in the past year. In February 2019 Qatargas delivered a commissioning cargo to the Ennore LNG receiving terminal near the southern Indian city of Chennai.
The 5 million metric tons/yr terminal at Mundra has been developed by GSPC LNG, a joint venture between Gujarat state-owned GSPC and private sector firm Adani. The regasified LNG from the terminal will be dispatched to market via the 67-km Mundra-Anjar pipeline, which connects to the existing gas grid. The terminal can receive vessels with a cargo capacity of between 75,000 and 260,000 m3. It comprises of two storage tanks – each with a capacity of 160,000 m3.
“India is a key market for Qatargas given its geographical proximity and growth potential. Upcoming developments such as new terminals and other gas related infrastructure will increase India's capacity to import LNG from 30mn mt/yr to 44mn mt/yr – a 46% increase as India continues to make strides in achieving its ambitious target of 15% gas in the energy mix,” the company said.
