Qatar's Barzan Gas Project to Come Online in 2016

Qatar’s Barzan gas project is expected to come online next year, as per 'Qatar Economic Outlook 2015–2017 Update' published Wednesday by Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics.

“Over the outlook period, hydrocarbon output will get a boost from Barzan, a new pipeline gas production facility scheduled to come on stream in 2016 and reach full capacity in 2017,” the report said. “Output from Barzan and expected recovery in condensate production in 2017 should help to lift aggregate GDP growth above 2015’s in both 2016 and 2017.”

The June Qatar Economic Outlook report had forecast pipeline gas from Barzan to add to output this year.

Once complete, the two processing trains of the Barzan gas project will produce around 1.4 billion standard cubic feet a day (bcfd) of sales gas.

The construction of the project, which includes both offshore and onshore facilities, started in 2011.

A major portion of the Barzan gas production will be used by the power and water generation sectors, enabling them to utilise clean-burning `natural gas to support several of Qatar's new projects that are underway.
