Queensland opens Gladstone hydrogen hub project for public comment

Queensland has released draft terms of reference for the H2-Hub Gladstone project’s environmental impact statement, the state government said on August 18.

Queenslanders can now have their say on the proposal to develop the A$4.7bn ($3.3bn) green hydrogen and green ammonia production and export facility at Yarwun, near Gladstone.

“Queensland’s Coordinator-General has now released draft terms of reference for the H2-Hub Gladstone project’s environmental impact statement, which means Queenslanders can comment,” deputy premier and minister for state development Steven Miles said.

The H2-Hub Gladstone project has a planned capacity of up to 3 GW of electrolysis and up to 5,000 metric tons/day of green ammonia production. The facility is expected to use 100% renewable energy from new-build solar and wind resources in the Queensland region.

Subject to approvals, H2U proposes to begin stage-one construction in 2023 with production commencing towards the end of 2025.
