Refining Unit Starts Up at Iran’s South Pars, Two Phases Being Inaugurated
The fourth refining unit of Iran's giant South Pars gas field phases 17 and 18 has come on stream, IRNA news agency reported on January 10.
Phases 17 and 18 are a joint project, with the final production capacity of 50mn m³/d. The report did not say what the capacity of the fourth unit would be but the other three combined add up to 75% of that.
The two phases produce a total 23mn m³/d from two platforms, with the next two platforms to be launched bringing capacity to 50mn m³/d.
Phases 17 and 18 are also projected to produce 80,000 barrels of gas condensates and 400 metric tons of sulphur/day.
The South Pars/North Field contains 30 trillion m³ of gas and 18 billion barrels of condensate. It covers 9,700 km², of which 3,700 km² are in Iran’s territory in the Persian Gulf, divided into 29 development phases. Qatar has the rest.
Two phases of South Pars to be inaugurated January 11
Phases 15 and 16 of Iran’s South Pars gas field will come on stream completely on January 11, producing an expected 50mn m³/d of gas, compared with about 17mn m³/d today.
Iran's president Hassan Rouhani will participate in the inauguration ceremony, IRNA news agency reported January 10. The phase will also produce the same amount of condensates and sulphur as phases 17 and 18.
