Regulator Approves US Transco Expansion Project
The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (Ferc) issued approvals May 3 for interstate pipeline company Transco’s planned $926.5mn Northeast Supply Enhancement Project.
The project is designed to provide up to 400mn ft3/day of additional firm transportation service between an existing compressor station in York Country, Pennsylvania and its offshore Rockaway Transfer Point in New York state waters. Transco held an open season in 2016 and subsequently signed binding precedent agreements with distributors Brooklyn Union Gas for 211.3mn ft3/day of firm service and KeySpan Gas East for 188.7mn ft3/day of firm service.
Facilities approved include about 13.8 miles (22.2 km) of onshore pipeline loop in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, 23.3 miles of offshore pipeline loop in New Jersey and New York, 21,902 horsepower of new electric motor-driven compressor capacity at an existing compressor station in Pennsylvania and 32,000 horsepower of new natural gas-fired, turbine-driven compressor capacity in New Jersey.
Completion date was not referenced, but Ferc’s approval is conditioned on the facilities being placed in-service within two years of the issuance of its approval certificate.
