REW Will Begin Drilling for Gas Offshore Turkmenistan in Early 2013

Germany’s RWE has announced that it will begin drilling and testing operations near the town of Ekerem of Balkan province of Turkmenistan under the production sharing agreement relating to Sea Block 23 in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea.

According to reports in Neutral Turkmenistan, the exercise is likely to commence in the early part of next year.

Companies wishing to participate in the tender should send their bids to RWE’s head office no later than 14 calendar days from the date of publication of this announcement in order to get the full package of tender documentation.

In 2009, RWE Dea was awarded the exploration licence Block 23, which is located in the south-eastern region of the Caspian Sea, immediately off the Turkmen coast. The licence area comprises about 940 square kilometres.

Turkmenistan has the fourth largest natural gas reserves in the world.
