Rosneft Drills Vietnam Production Well
Rosneft said May 15 it has begun drilling a production well as part of its block 06.1 development offshore Vietnam which it operates with a 35% interest, alongside India’s ONGC 45% and Petrovietnam 20%.
The Russian state-run oil giant said it is drilling well LD-3P, on the Lan Do field which has 23bn m3 of initial reserves.
Block 06.01 is to be developed using subsea tie-backs to the Lan Tay platform, from which gas and liquids are to be piped to shore via the 370km Nam Con Son pipeline, one of the longest in southeast Asia.
Three block 06.1 gas fields - Lan Tai, Lan Do, and Phong Lan Dai (PLD, or Wild Orchid) – will be thus developed, with aggregate 69bn m3 of initial gas reserves. Lan Do and later this year PLD are being drilled using Japan Drilling Company’s drillrig Hakuryu-5.
Rosneft also has a 100% interest and operates the adjacent offshore block 05.3/11, resources of which it estimates at 28bn m3 gas and 17.5mn mt condensate. The first exploration well was drilled in June 2016 and drilling of a second started in March 2018. The Russian oil group also owns a 32.67% share in the Nam Con Son pipeline system which transports gas and condensate from offshore blocks to shore.
Rosneft said that gas which it produced covered 9% of Vietnam’s energy needs in 2017. Also outside Russia, Rosneft has a 30% interest in the Eni-operated giant offshore Zohr gasfield.
