Rosneft Keen to Participate in Israel Offshore Gas Projects

Rosneft is keen to participate in the development of Israel’s offshore natural gas fields and has has discussions with interested parties in Israel.

Dow Jones has reported citing chief executive of the Russian oil and gas company Igor Sechin that the company has met with Israeli interested parties, including the energy ministry and the owners of the (offshore gas) licenses. However, there has been no meaningful response from the Israeli side.

Israel has struck large reserves of gas off its coast and is aiming to fully exploit the energy source.

The Tamar field, which contains an estimated 9 trillion cubic feet of gas, is scheduled to begin production next year, and the Leviathan field, which contains an estimated 16 trillion cubic feet of gas, will begin production several years later.
