Russia Could Sell Gas to Ukraine at $146 in 2016
Kiev continues working on its plan to buy 2.2 bcm of Russian gas by the end of October, in a moment media outlets report that Ukraine could pay as little as $146 for thousand cubic meter of gas in 2016.
Russian News Agency TASS wrote on Monday that Russian gas supplies account for over 80% of Ukraine’s gas imports in October. Last week, Ukrainian officials repeated that Kiev intends to buy 50% of its gas from the EU and the remaining from Russia.
These divergent figures confirm the complexity of the picture.
Meanwhile, as said, Ukraine’s Ukrinform reported an analysis by RIA Novosti saying that the estimate of $146 per thousand cubic meter was inferred from Russia’s draft federal budget for the coming year.
Last week, Naftogaz CEO Andriy Kobolyev and the EBRD Managing Director for Energy and Natural Resources Riccardo Puliti signed a a 3-year revolving facility, which will enable Ukraine to purchase 1 bcm of gas at the ‘western border of Ukraine.’
