Russia and EU to Continue Discussion of Key Gas Matters

Senior Russian and EU representatives plan to meet on August 29th to discuss various pressing matters in respect to the transit of Russian gas to Europe.

Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak and EU Energy Commissioner Guenther Oettinger will meet in in Moscow to discuss the transit of Russian gas to Europe by the Ukraine transmission system, the South Stream gas pipeline project, full use of the OPAL pipeline by Gazprom, and the Russia-EU Energy Dialogue.

The meeting confirmed by the Russian Energy Ministry, could be a prelude to the continuation of trilateral gas consultations between Ukraine, the European Commission and Russia.

Previous tripartite consultations, involving Novak, Oettinger, and Ukrainian representative Yuriy Prodan, ended on June 16 without a satisfactory resolution.
