Russia Seeks Stronger Ties with Germany

Russia confirmed its intention to strengthen ties with Germany, despite the inability of Berlin to broker a deal between Moscow and Kiev.

‘The President of Russia gave a high appraisal of the great positive potential that Russia and Germany have built up in their relations and noted how important it is to preserve and build on this foundation in the current difficult period,’ reads a note released by the Kremlin on Friday. 

Last week, European Commissioner Gunther Oettinger said that he would have pushed for a deal by the end of this week. Oettinger is strongly related to Merkel and the failure might backlash on the CDU, which is the political party of Oettinger and Merkel.

Despite Germany confirmed its dubious diplomatic skills, Russia wants to maintain a strong connection. 

‘The President said he is confident that joint effort will enable the two countries to continue developing the full range of their mutually advantageous cooperation and continue working as partners to resolve current international issues in the interests of both nations and in the aim of ensuring stability and security in Europe and throughout the world.’

Earlier this week, Merkel and Putin agreed to adhere to the Minsk peace agreements.
