Russia to cut off gas supply to Shell in Germany
Russia's Gazprom announced on May 31 it would be cutting off gas deliveries to Shell Energy Europe at the start of next month, after the latter refused to pay for supplies in rubles.
The contract Shell Energy has covers up to 1.2bn m3 of annual gas supply, Gazprom Export said in a post on its Telegram channel. Supply will not be resumed until payment is made in line with a decree the Kremlin issued at the end of March. This decree states that companies in "unfriendly" countries that have supported sanctions against Russia must set up special currency accounts at Gazprombank, where their payments for gas will be converted into rubles before being transferred to Gazprom.

Gazprom Export also confirmed it was cutting gas supply on June 1 to Denmark's Orsted, which had announced on May 30 that it had proposed continuing to pay the Russian supplier in euros. Gazprom has also ceased deliveries to the Netherlands' GasTerra.
