ITAR-TASS: Russia, US plunge into active phase of rivalry for Europe’s energy market - expert

The United States and Russian have plunged into an active phase of struggle for European energy markets, Sergei Millian, the president of the Russian-American Chamber of Commerce, told Itar-Tass on Thursday, commenting on Washington’s new portion of sanctions against Russia.

“Since the United States is doing its utmost to have Europeans do away with their dependence on Russian energy sources and use fuels from other sources, including American, instead, it looks like Washington and Moscow have plunged into an active phase of rivalry for Europe’s energy market,” he said, adding that Europe’s non-imposing more sanctions against Russia “suggests that this struggle is not being won by the United States.”

“The European Union has ten times as many business contacts with Russia than the United States,” Millian noted.
