Russia Worried US Will Sanction NS 2
Global geopolitical corridors are buzzing over suggestions the US might sanction the giant Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline from Russia to Germany, but US energy secretary Rick Perry, after meeting in Moscow September 13 with Russian energy minister Alexander Novak, said no sanctions are imminent.
According to several news outlets, Perry responded in the affirmative to questions surrounding whether the US might impose sanctions against NS 2, which would double Russia’s capacity to ship gas directly to Germany under the Baltic Sea.

But he also said that the US does not want to impose sanctions and indicated none were imminent.
“Minister Novak and I both agree that getting to that point where sanctions would be engaged is not where we want to go,” Perry said.
Novak said construction of NS 2 would continue, but added Russia “was concerned” by Perry’s comments.
“We are concerned with the statements made and with the general position with regard to future sanctions against a very competitive project which is in the interests of European consumers,” he said.
