Voice of Russia: Russian gas pipeline project will continue 'irrespective' of Ukraine crisis
It's been claimed that the crisis in Ukraine is threatening to de-rail Russian plans to develop a new gas pipeline to Europe. But now analysts have said the situation is unlikely to make any difference. VoR's Brendan Cole spoke to Gokce Mete, a researcher at the Centre for Energy Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy at the University of Dundee.
Russia is currently pumping million of pounds into South Stream pipeline which would by-pass Ukraine to get gas to European customers.
Many have said that if the situation deteriorates the EU will make it near impossible for Russia to continue its plans, as the relationship with the West gets more fraught, and with the economic block keen to diversify its gas suppliers and reduce its dependence on Russia.
