Saipem lands Qatari LNG contract worth $1bn
Italian services group Saipem has secured a second contract from Qatargas worth over $1bn for work at the North Field LNG project in Qatar, it said on March 22.
The contract covers engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) of offshore export trunklines and onshore tie-in works, aimed at extending the North Field's production plateau. The North Field is undergoing a $28.8bn expansion, with Saipem winning a $1.7bn EPCI contract in February for that project's offshore facilities. Saipem's work under the new contract will seek to maintain output at North Field's existing facilities, however.

The three export trunklines that Saipem will build will link offshore platforms to the Qatargas North and South Plants in Ras Laffan Industrial City, measuring 300 km in total length. The company will also undertake associated onshore tie-in work and brownfield activities at existing onshore and offshore facilities. Project completion is expected by mid-2024.
"This additional contract awarded by our key client Qatargas strengthens our consolidated relationship and represents a further proof of the trust in Saipem’s ability to deliver challenging projects and is a sign of success of our positioning strategy in Qatar. We are very proud to increase our contribution to such a strategic development for the country," the COO of Saipem's E&C Offshore Division, Stefano Porcari, said in a statement.
