Saipem Lands Saudi Gas Contracts
Italian firm Saipem has landed two engineering, procurement, construction and installation contracts in the Arabian Gulf, worth over $3.5bn, it said July 9.
Saudi Aramco wants it to expand the Abu Ali oil-gas separation facilities for the Berri field and enlarge the gas treatment plant of Khursaniyah, adding new processing trains; and to build a gas treatment unit and another unit for the recovery of acid gases for sulphur production at the Marjan field.
The treatment of acid gases will almost completely eliminate the release of sulphur oxides into the environment: more than 99.9% of the gases will be recovered and CO2 emissions into the atmosphere will comply with the most stringent international standards.
Saipem CEO, Stefano Cao said the "new, complex contracts testifies to the evolution of our historic relationship with Saudi Aramco and confirms the strategic positioning of Saipem in the Middle East. In the tough context of recent years, Saipem has demonstrated a constant commitment to sustainable economic growth through technological innovation. This commitment allows for the realisation of industrial processes to exploit natural resources with maximum respect for the environment and the reduction of the carbon footprint."
