Sasol Gives Up Search for Gas Offshore Mozambique
South Africa’s Sasol has abandoned search for natural gas in blocks 16 and 19 offshore Mozambique.
According to the chairperson of Mozambican Hydrocarbon Company (ENH), Nelson Ocuane, data from test wells led Sasol to conclude that the natural gas reserves in these areas are not commercially viable, newspaper Noticias reported.
As per the agreement signed with the Mozambican government in September 2010, Sasol and the ENH would carry out exploration work fpr eight years and Sasol would invest $25 million.
Blocks 16 and 19 are located off the coast of Inhambane and Sofala. Sasol has been exploring natural gas in the Pande / Temane, in Inhambane province, since 2004.
